How I Found My Passion as a Personal Trainer
Life has a funny way of taking us in directions we don’t expect. For me, the path to becoming a personal trainer started at 16 with a torn ACL and a love for sports. It’s been a long, winding road since then, but every step—from studying kinesiology to traveling Europe, working with kids, and finally building my business—has shaped the trainer (and person) I am today.
If you’re reading this, maybe you’re here because you’re searching for a trainer to help you crush your fitness goals. Maybe you’re curious about what makes my approach different. Or maybe you’re just wondering about the face behind the name. Whatever brought you here, I’m excited to share my story and give you a better sense of who I am, how I approach training, and how I can help you find a stronger, healthier, more confident version of yourself.
A Journey That Started with an Injury
When I was 16, sports were everything to me. I loved the competition, the energy, and the drive to push my limits. Then I tore my ACL, and everything changed. Recovery was tough, but it introduced me to something I quickly became fascinated by—how the human body works, moves, and heals. That’s when I decided to study kinesiology, initially aiming to become a physiotherapist to help others through their physical hurdles.
But as life unfolded, I began to pivot. My passion for movement drew me toward the idea of becoming a gym teacher. That was the direction I was heading—right up until my final year at university, when an opportunity popped up out of the blue. A fitness manager at GoodLife approached me about becoming a personal trainer. I thought, “Why not give it a shot for a year?”
And so began the start of my fitness career.
From Corporate Burnout to Self-Discovery
My first role as a trainer was eye-opening. At the time, I saw the job as temporary, but I dove into it with the same dedication I’d always brought to sports and school. I loved helping people achieve their goals, but I quickly became frustrated with the corporate side of training—especially the push for aggressive sales tactics that didn’t align with my values.
After hitting burnout, I needed a break. I took some time to travel through Europe and worked as a kids’ camp counselor in England. Those months gave me clarity about what I wanted. I enjoyed guiding kids, but I also realized my best work happened one-on-one. I came back ready for a fresh start.
I joined F45, where I gained invaluable experience… until the pandemic changed everything. Like so many people, I was left questioning my career path when COVID-19 hit. For a moment, I thought about leaving fitness altogether and heading into the trades. But then, life threw me another curveball—this time, in the form of an online client.
That first client became two, then four, then eight. Suddenly, I saw the potential to do something I hadn’t considered before—work for myself as an online trainer. It was a game-changer.
Combining Passions and Building a Business
Self-employment gave me the freedom to combine my passion for fitness with a lifestyle I love. Along the way, I built not just a career, but a way of living that blends work, travel, and continuous growth. And while I’m still evolving, one thing is certain—I’ve never looked back.
From my background in kinesiology and sports to my years of self-directed learning, I’ve developed a unique approach to training. I’m not about flashy or gimmicky programs. For me, success comes from mastering the basics, showing up consistently, and focusing on the things that truly make a difference.
My Training Philosophy
My philosophy as a personal trainer has changed a lot over the years. When I first started, I thought a “perfect” program was the key to success. I obsessed over the science, trying to make everything flawless. But as I gained experience, I realized something much simpler yet more profound—the biggest success comes from just showing up.
Now, my approach is all about keeping things straightforward and sustainable:
Master the Basics: Most people don’t need endless variety or complicated tricks to get strong. I focus on core movements like squats, deadlifts, and rows—simple, effective exercises that give the biggest payoff.
Prioritize Long-Term Wins: I don’t believe in quick fixes or shortcuts. Real transformation comes from consistent effort over time, and I’m here to help my clients build habits that last.
Adapt to Your Needs: There’s no one-size-fits-all program. Every client is different, and my goal is to meet you where you are, whether that means modifying exercises for joint limitations or finding creative ways to stay motivated.
Make It Achievable: Small wins build momentum. My job is to help you identify those wins and build on them, one step at a time.
My favorite part of training isn’t just seeing physical progress—it’s watching people gain confidence and learn what they’re truly capable of. Whether it’s helping someone overcome chronic pain, hit a fitness milestone, or simply feel comfortable in their own skin, I find so much meaning in being a part of those journeys.
Why Clients Work with Me
If there’s one thing my clients would say about working with me, it’s that I genuinely care. Since day one, I’ve believed that training isn’t about the hours or the dollar signs—it’s about helping people succeed. My coaching isn’t rigid or transactional. It’s adaptive, human-centered, and built on trust.
Clients appreciate my ability to adjust to their needs. They know I’ll put their well-being first, even if it means stepping outside the box or skipping something that isn’t right for them at that moment. I take pride in creating a judgment-free space where people feel supported.
I’ve also grown a lot personally since starting this career. Early on, I struggled with imposter syndrome and tried to prove my worth by cramming as much as possible into every session. Now, I’ve learned that making a difference isn’t about doing more. It’s about genuinely connecting with clients and showing them that I care about their success.
